Labia come in all different sizes, shapes and there is a wide range of what is considered entirely normal. For the majority of women, labiaplasty may not be medically necessary; however, can greatly improve a woman’s quality of life. For some women, labial enlargement can lead to functional difficulties such as interference with sexual intercourse, local irritation, discomfort with exercise and other daily activities or aesthetic concerns.  Labiaplasty reduces the size of the labia to achieve improved comfort and aesthetics. As a female aesthetic plastic surgeon, Dr. Zaluzec customizes your surgery to your unique anatomy and personalized goals.

  • Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure performed to reduce the size of the labia minora or labia majora. During the procedure, excess skin and tissue are removed from the vulva, to create a more comfortable, youthful, and attractive look. Two common forms of labiaplasty are labia majora reduction and labia minora reduction.
  • Dr. Zaluzec understands the sensitive nature of this procedure. She and her female team will explain the procedure and anatomy with you in detail and answer any questions you have.
  • Labiaplasty can often be done very comfortably with local anesthesia and is Dr. Zaluzec’s preferred method. Surgery will take approximately one to two hours. General anesthesia is also available for those who would prefer this option.
  • Labia minor reduction: This procedure is also known as a wedge or trim labiaplasty, Dr. Zaluzec will determine which technique is best for your unique anatomy and goals. The labia minora are the smaller pieces of tissue situated inside the labia majora. Labia minora reduction reduces the length and size of this tissue for a more proportionate appearance. Often, clitoral hood reduction is performed at the same time to create the best symmetry. This procedure is very carefully performed in order to preserve vascular tissue and nerve sensation.
  • Labia majora reduction: The labia majora are the outer lips located at the vaginal opening. This procedure involves the removal of an elliptical - pattern piece of tissue through a small, hidden incision.
  • Occasionally, women experience deflation of this tissue. Fat grafting is an excellent way to rejuvenate this delicate area.
  • After surgery, patients will experience swelling and mild - to - moderate pain, bruising and itching as your incisions heal. Pain medication may be prescribed to help with any pain.
  • Dr. Zaluzec recommends you have plenty of ice packs at home to use during the first week of recovery and she will guide you through the process in detail at your visit.
  • You will be restricted to only low - level activity for about five days to allow the delicate tissue to heal. Exercise may be gradually resumed after four to six weeks.
  • Sexual intercourse and tampons should be avoided until at least 4 to 6 weeks after labiaplasty surgery.
