While most of us enjoy the wisdom and experience that come with age, none of us appreciate the signs of aging. Your eyebrows and forehead are some of the most visible areas affected by age. A customized brow lift can revitalize your face, and create a more youthful appearance.

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure to raise your brows while reducing wrinkles and creases on your forehead. It can be performed by several different methods and is a highly customized procedure that will reflect your goals, skin and tissue condition. A brow lift may be one aspect of a comprehensive facial rejuvenation, that may include a facelift, browlift, eyelid lift, and neck lift.

Whether it’s caused by muscle activity or inherited conditions, brow lifts are typically performed on patients 40-60 years of age. However, anyone with lined or inelastic skin on the forehead will benefit from this procedure.

A brow lift can:

  • Restore a more relaxed facial expression
  • Raise eyebrows for a more awake, and youthful appearance
  • Make your eyes more visible
  • Smooth wrinkles and creases in your forehead

A brow lift might be right for you if:

  • You desire a more youthful appearance
  • Your brows have dropped lower, giving you an angry or sad expression
  • You are in good health and have no pre-existing medical condition
  • Do not smoke

A small incision is made behind the ear or at the hairline to lift the brows and forehead. Small amounts of skin are removed in order to accomplish the lift.

You may experience some numbness and discomfort at the incision and will have to elevate your head for two to three days to reduce swelling. Bandages are removed in one to two days, and stitches or clips are taken out in two weeks. Hair near the incision may fall out or thin, but normal growth should return within weeks or a few months.

You will be able to recover at home and you will be on your feet and able to wash your hair in a day or two, and many patients return to work or school in seven to ten days or less. Swelling and bruising should fade by the third week.

Dr. Zaluzec offers Botox and Thread Lifts as an alternative to surgery. She will discuss all options with you at your consultation.
