After breast cancer surgery, the final step is to restore a natural-looking breast mound and nipple structure with breast reconstruction surgery. Dr. Zaluzec is an experienced, talented surgeon who would be honored to help you with this vital aspect of full breast cancer recovery.

  • Breast reconstruction will restore the breasts after a unilateral or bilateral mastectomy or lumpectomy. Your breast reconstruction can be performed immediately after a mastectomy or at a later time, based on the need for further cancer treatments.
  • Reconstruction can also be performed the same surgery as the mastectomy, which may be the ideal approach. For some women, delayed reconstruction is the only option.
  • Custom treatments may include placing tissue expanders before placing implants, direct to implant reconstruction, fat grafting, or an autologous flap procedure. Dr. Zaluzec will work closely with your surgical oncologist and your other medical providers when planning your custom breast reconstruction surgery.
  • If you have been diagnosed with breast cancer, discussing breast reconstruction before undergoing a mastectomy is essential. Dr. Zaluzec understands this is a stressful time in your life and is available to help you and your treatment team make the best decision for reconstruction.

The top priority is to help patients heal physically and mentally from breast cancer. Most women undergoing treatment for breast cancer are able to have breast reconstruction. Some patients may need to be delay reconstruction in order to best treat their breast cancer first. You, your oncology team, and Dr. Zaluzec will discuss a customized plan in detail to determine your treatment options.
